Card Upgrading & Upgrade Materials
Even a Damaged card can become Mint with a little effort and the right materials!
Learn how to improve a card's condition through upgrading, using Gold, Dust, and Upgrade Orbs, and understand what happens when an attempt succeeds or fails.
01 How Card Upgrading Works
▸ Condition progression:
Damaged → Poor → Good → Excellent → Mint
Upgrading normally requires Gold and the appropriate type of Dust. Each attempt has a chance of succeeding or failing.
▸ Upgrading a card:
k!upgrade <card code>kup <card code>Example: kup abc123
Replace abc123 with the code of the card you want to upgrade. Karuta will display the required materials and success chance before you confirm.

Upgrading changes a card's current condition, not its original quality.
02 Understanding Dust
Dust is a material used to upgrade cards. Different upgrade stages require different types of Dust.
▸ Obtaining Dust:
Dust can be obtained by burning unwanted cards. The quality of the burned card determines the type of Dust received.
Burning permanently destroys a card. We'll explain how burning works, its commands, and the materials you can obtain in a separate ♤ Burning Cards & Dust guide.
03 Understanding Upgrade Orbs
Upgrade Orbs guarantee a successful upgrade attempt, removing the risk of failure.
They're especially useful when upgrading valuable cards or avoiding unsuccessful attempts.
▸ What to remember:
- Normal upgrades have a chance of failure.
- Upgrade Orbs guarantee success.
- Gold and Dust are not required when using orbs.
- Each successful upgrade improves condition by one level.
04 Tips Before Upgrading
- Check your card's current condition before gathering materials.
- Consider whether the card is worth the resources.
- Save Upgrade Orbs for upgrades where guaranteed success is especially useful.
- Avoid burning rare prints or cards you may want to keep.
Upgrade costs and success chances vary by upgrade stage. Always check Karuta's displayed requirements.
